Mother Accused Of Raping 3 Year Old Daughter Granted Bail

A 35-year-old woman who is facing a rape charge has been granted bail by the High Court in Suva.

The woman appeared before Justice Daniel Goundar yesterday.

She is alleged to have raped her three-year-old daughter between September 2018 and January 2019 at Samabula.

Justice Goundar granted bail on the condition of a 24-hour curfew and strict conditions.

He also imposed a bail bond sum of $500 each to the two sureties and told the accused not to change her residential address without the leave of court.

State prosecutor of the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions Sujata Lodhia sought time to file information and disclosures.

Defence lawyer Shelvin Singh told the court that the daughter of the accused, who is the complainant in the matter, was at Saint Christopher’s Home in Nakasi after the alleged incident.

The matter was adjourned for plea to March 26.
