In a statement, the EC and FEO said the proposed legislative changes would not affect their operational readiness to conduct the election.

Fiji has 707,982 registered voters as of December 31, 2025, with the next updated voter count due by August 31, 2026.

Minister for Justice and Acting Attorney-General Siromi Turaga revealed the figure in Parliament this week in response to a written question from Assistant Minister for Agriculture Inosi Kuridrani on the Fijian Elections Office’s (FEO) voter awareness and registration drives.

The figures come as the FEO and Electoral Commission (EC) yesterday jointly affirmed their readiness to conduct the next General Election “at any time” within the constitutional window of August 7, 2026 to February 6, 2027.

Mr Turaga said the FEO had conducted three major awareness programmes between 2025 and 2026.

The Your Election Your Say (YES) Outreach Nationwide Awareness programme, held from May 4 to June 19, 2026, conducted 1,602 sessions and reached 28,109 people across the four divisions.

The Western Division recorded the highest turnout, with 9,702 people reached.

FEO teams also conducted voter awareness and registration activities in 18 overseas countries, including Australia, New Zealand, the United Kingdom, the United States and several Pacific nations.

Between 2025 and 2026, the overseas programme conducted 210 sessions and engaged 4,106 people.

A separate Community Elections Advocate Awareness programme, which ran from November 11, 2025 to July 31, 2026, conducted 1,719 sessions and recorded 16,714 engagements.

The nationwide voter registration drive recorded 8,158 new registrations, 61,723 corrections and updates, and 28,091 replacements.

The transactions totalled 97,972.

Overseas registration drives resulted in 23 new voters and 743 corrections and replacements across the 18 countries.

Mr Turaga’s response did not provide a specific projection of additional voters ahead of the next General Election.

He said updated figures would be released by the end of August.

The latest figures provide a snapshot of Fiji’s registered voter base as the country enters the constitutional window for the next General Election.
