For Officer Cadet Jonetani Kaukimoce, joining the military was always more than a career. It was a childhood dream inspired by watching soldiers visit his rural community.

“They had this presence. I used to look at them and think, ‘One day, that will be me,’” said the young Platoon Commander from Qalikarua, Matuku, Lau, with maternal ties to Vusaratu, Natewa, Cakaudrove. “I wanted to serve, to be part of something bigger.”

That dream came to life after three months of intense training, culminating in the Force Training Group (FTG) passing-out Parade on today in Nasinu, where 141 recruits took their place on the parade ground. Officer Cadet Kaukimoce quietly rose to the top, earning the title of Best Platoon Commander in Drill.

He stood out, not just for his sharp drill commands, but for the heart and humility behind them.

“These 12 weeks tested everything — my body, my spirit, and my commitment,” he said. “But I kept thinking of home. I carried my vanua with me every step I marched.”

As Platoon Commander of Platoon 3, Officer Cadet Kaukimoce understands the weight of leadership.

“It’s not just about shouting commands, it’s about showing up every day with discipline and leading by example. You earn respect by living the standard.”

Today’s award marks just the beginning of his military journey, one built on drill, duty, and determination.
