The Nadi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (NCCI) has welcomed the Damodar Group's planned $80 million mixed-use development in Nadi, saying the project will create hundreds of jobs and strengthen the town's economy.

The development, known as Damodar City Nadi, will feature cinemas, a hotel, restaurants, technology and fashion outlets, and entertainment facilities.

NCCI president Lawrence Kumar said the investment reflected confidence in both Nadi and Fiji.

"On behalf of the Nadi Chamber of Commerce and Industry, I congratulate the Damodar Group on this investment in our town. This is more than a development; it is a statement of confidence in Nadi and in Fiji," Mr Kumar said.

He said the project represented years of planning and a long-term commitment to the Western Division.

"To plan something of this magnitude over 16 years shows dedication and belief in this region. Damodar Group has built successful developments in the Central and Northern divisions and has now chosen to bring that vision to the West."

Mr Kumar said the project, which is expected to create nearly 680 permanent jobs, would deliver significant benefits to the local economy.

"Jobs across retail, hospitality, technology and facility management will change lives across Nadi and the wider Western Division. This is the type of investment our members and the community have been hoping for."

He said the chamber looked forward to supporting the company as it progressed towards the project's planned opening in mid-2027.

"We look forward to seeing Damodar City Nadi rise along the Denarau Bypass Road, and we thank the Damodar Group for believing in Nadi."

Construction on the development is expected to begin next year.
