Veteran golfers push Raina to victory

Fiji’s top-ranked amateur golfer Raina Kumar successfully defended the women’s title of the GM Motors Fiji Classics, underlining her dominance in local golf.
Kumar carded a three-round gross total of 222 to win the 54-hole tournament at the Denarau Golf and Racquet Club on Saturday.
She acknowledged the strong competition from veteran golfers Amy Subam, Merelita McCarthy and former Fiji champion Sylvia Joe.

“Amitesh (Chandra) and Roneel (Prakash) convinced me to play in this competition, and it has turned out really well,” she said.
“I thank the sponsors, the Denarau Golf and Racquet Club team and my parents for their support.”
Meanwhile, Suva women golfer Connie Kwon won the overall net division with a score of 197.
“It was a great three days of competition. I really loved it,” Kwon said.
