The Fiji Police Force Criminal Investigation Department is investigating information disclosed by a former police officer in a video circulating on social media.

The video alleges the involvement of public officials in the illicit drug trade.

Assistant Commissioner of Police Crime (ACP/C) Mesake Waqa said any action would only be taken after the verification process had been completed.

ACP Waqa confirmed that investigations were already underway before the video was released, focusing on establishing links between individuals involved in the drug trade.

He said the investigations were being carried out in line with the directive of the Commissioner of Police to disrupt and dismantle networks engaged in illegal drug activities.

Police have not released further details as inquiries continue.
