Kinoya Assembly of God Church has been targeted by burglars for the fourth time, leaving members of the congregation upset and concerned about the safety of their place of worship.
Church Senior Pastor Rev Philip Madhavan confirmed that the latest break-in occurred last night at the church office, where offenders forced their way inside and removed a safe containing around $8,000.
The cost of the damage and stolen property amounts to over $10,000 from the break‑in.
Rev Madhavan said the safe held contributions and donations collected during weekend services as well as kindergarten fees.
The burglars caused significant damage to the church office during the break-in. They also used a wheelbarrow belonging to the church to move the safe off the premises.
“This is now the fourth time our church property has been targeted by burglars,” Rev Madhavan said.
He said the repeated incidents were deeply distressing for members of the church community.
“The offerings that were stolen represent the sacrificial giving of our members who faithfully support the work of God and the ministry of the church,” he said.
Thieves ransacked the church office.
Rev Madhavan said the church had previously taken steps to improve security, but the continued break-ins had raised concerns among members.
Despite the loss, Rev Madhavan said the church had chosen to respond with forgiveness rather than anger.
He added that the church remained steadfast in its faith and would continue its work in the community despite the setback.
“At the same time, as followers of Christ, we choose to forgive and we pray for those who have committed this act, that God may touch their hearts and lead them to repentance and transformation,” he said.
“As a church, we will not allow these incidents to discourage us from continuing the work that God has called us to do,” he said.
Rev Madhavan said the church trusted that the Police would investigate the matter thoroughly and help prevent similar incidents in the future.
Anyone with information about the burglary has been urged to contact the authorities.
Police are currently at the scene investigating the incident.
