Police are searching for a woman and two children from Labasa, who are alleged to have been missing for a week.

A Labasa mother is appealing for information to help locate her daughter and two grandchildren, who were last seen last Friday.

Amla Wati, 67, said her daughter Ronika Chand, 36, and her grandchildren Raina Chand, 5, and Rihaal Deo, 14, were dropped off then by her son-in-law to board the Interlink Shipping Line Limited bus at Labasa Town. They were to travel to Suva by boat.

“The last time we spoke was about 8pm and after that her mobile telephone was switched off,” Ms Wati, of Naduna, Labasa, said.

“The next day we filed a missing person’s report at the Labasa Police Station and now it has been exactly one week, which is why we posted on Facebook seeking public assistance.”

Ms Wati said her daughter is suffering from leg pain since receiving an injection from a private medical practitioner in Labasa in 2016.

“Since then, she has been travelling from Labasa to seek medical treatment at either the Colonial War Memorial Hospital or Tamavua Hospital,” she said.

“This is the first time she took her children with her because it is their school holidays.”

Ms Wati said anyone with information could contact her on 9918866.

Police spokesperson Corporal Wame Bautolu confirmed police were trying to locate them.

He said Ms Wati was updated on the progress of the case last evening.

Meanwhile, Interlink Shipping Line Limited said it was unaware of the missing person’s report and was willing to assist police with any investigation if required.
