Rabuka votes chatter

There is a lot of chatter on social media and within SODELPA on where votes for party leader Sitiveni Rabuka will go if he loses the High Court appeal case against his acquittal.

He will know his fate two days before the poll on November 14. By then pre-polling and postal voting will have happened. What will happen to his votes?

Some in the party are suggesting that Mr Rabuka can do the honourable thing by telling supporters to vote for other candidates until his cases in decided.

Meanwhile, party president, Ratu Naiqama Lalabalavu, has issued a statement calling on members to pray for Mr Rabuka and rally behind him. Ratu Naiqama has the mandate to act as party leader in the event that Mr Rabuka is convicted and can’t stand in the election.

No pork or fish please

There is an iTaukei cultural ritual on food that has survived for a long time. It was on display at Nabukaluka Village, Naitasiri as they mourned the death of the Marama na Roko Tui Waimaro, Ro Pateresia Vonokula. One group would not eat pork in front of another group which would not eat fish.

So the cooks are only preparing beef dishes to make everyone happy. You may call it superstition but in the iTaukei culture it’s called ‘veibatiki’.

They believe if you break the rule you could suffer from stomach ache or vomiting.

Nurses’ new look

The nurses’ new white uniforms was issued yesterday and they will be wearing them today.

If you mistake them as chefs, don’t worry you are not alone.

Troop Movements

Some consternation in parts of the Hidden Paradise with soldiers with guns being sighted. Was there trouble brewing? Relax, Savusavu.

Men and women of the 3FIR (Third Battalion Fiji Infantry Regiment) have been taking part in an exercise in the North, which included preparation for the cyclone season. Regular readers of the Fiji Sun would have been well aware of this.
