Yachts under surveillance

The discovery of millions of dollars worth of cocaine washed up on the shores of some islands in the Lau Group has alerted Police and Customs officers to a big illicit drug transit ring.

The Roko Tui (provincial administrators) are working closely with Police to monitor the movement of yachts in the area. Over the past few weeks a number of yachts have been found in Lau waters.

Some of these yachts apparently do not have proper clearance documents. In fact, one yacht crew went ashore on one island.

Their documents clearly showed they had not been cleared by Customs and Immigration. Through the collaborative efforts of the villagers, provincial officers and Police, the net is closing in on those who might be responsible.

Let there be light

If you are driving on the Queens Rd on your way to Sigatoka, you will see as you reach the new Navua Hospital new lamp posts on roadsides right up to Deuba and even Lomeri

It is understood this is part of an ambitious Government project to light up Viti Levu.

If it has not reached you, it will one of these days.
