Bad odour persists

It is your misfortune if you stop at the lights at the Four Miles Bridge, near Centrepoint between Suva and Nausori. You will unavoidably have to put up with a really bad smell apparently coming from a sewerage pipeline.

BTL wonders how residents who live nearby put up with the smell daily. Maybe, they’ve become immune to it.

But the fact is on some days the smell is really bad and unbearable.

BTL investigations found that in February, this year, at a Public Accounts Committee hearing in Parliament the Water Authority of Fiji’s (WAF) general manager special projects officer, Taitusi Vakadravuyaca, said they were working on a project to stop the smell.

BTL wonders when the project would be completed to stop the odour.

Post-election trauma?

Another failed politician and General Election candidate has deleted her Facebook account.

Earlier a colleague had done the same thing. BTL understands others will follow. It’s what some describe as post election trauma rehabilitation.

Does this mean they will quit politics altogether? For those who have politics running in their blood they usually resurface just before an election.

Cancer nurse

A patient going in for her chemotherapy session at the CWM Hospital in Suva has been repeatedly told to come back on alternative dates to receive her treatment because the only nurse who supposedly overlooks chemotherapy sessions is on leave.

BTL hopes the newly- appointed Minister for Health Dr Ifereimi Waqainabete will make the necessary reforms to address staff shortages at the hospital.

Toilets and transgenders

A transgender male worker in Suva is crying foul after he was banned from the female restroom by the management.

The ban has created a furore among transgenders who have urged their colleague to make a stand.

He is defying the ban and still goes to the female restroom saying it is part of his human rights.

Although he is born a male he feels he is a female by the way he dresses and conducts his life. He resents the tag “he, him or his”. He wants to be known as a woman with the tag “she, her.”

BTL thinks it’s up to the women in his workplace.

If they feel comfortable in his presence then it’s a non-issue. But if some don’t like his presence then he should respect their wish and use the men’s toilets. He claims he is harassed in the men’s and that’s why he goes to the women’s.
