Editorial: Addressing The Challenges Of Parenthood| A Call For Root Cause Solution

Community leaders, faith-based leaders, the Government, NGO groups can conduct advocacy campaigns and do as much as they possibly can to address the social ills affecting our youth today.

We lead today with something that is sure to hit the heartstrings of many parents and guardians who are faced with the challenges of parenthood.

We can write as many editorials as possible on the moral decay of society, but if this message doesn’t hit home, then all the words would be for naught.

Community leaders, faith-based leaders, the Government, NGO groups can conduct advocacy campaigns and do as much as they possibly can to address the social ills affecting our youth today.

However, if those responsible for the wellbeing of these children don’t address the root cause of the matter, then all other efforts are null and void.

Our Report Highlights:

  •  A case where a student allegedly snuck illicit drugs by placing it in a highlighter marker;
  •  The shocking revelation by the Ba Provincial Council that 18,000 of its students dropped out of school;
  •  A brawl in Makoi lands a youth in hospital; and
  •  The high rate of rape cases.

These are just some instances that question our parenting and guardianship skills.

To anyone who has raised a child, chances are that when their child comes of age, either they become acceptable models of society or otherwise.

And when it comes to the latter, parents and guardians are in for a rude awakening.

While some are hacking this parenthood code and perfecting it, some prefer free-range parenting, an influence of the modern world, while others would rather build their social status than their core responsibilities and obligations.

To complicate it even more, the influence of social media, the internet and access to information that isn’t suitable for our young, is a stumbling block.

There is no certain guide or dummy that guarantees your child’s shining future but there is an innate guide, a mother’s instinct or a father’s, if you will, on how to raise that child by giving them all the love and guidance they deserves.

And that’s where it all begins.

Police acting chief, church leaders and the responsible ministries we’ve highlighted in the today’s lead echo the same.

Parenting involves providing a nurturing and loving environment for children to thrive.

It involves a parents’ will to prioritise their children’s self-esteem, celebrating their achievements and encouraging their unique strengths as well as discipline.

Ultimately, good parenting involves being present, supportive, and empowering, allowing children to grow into confident and well-rounded individuals.

It’s a long-winding journey and there’s no pitstop.
