Tuwai’s parents

Dharmendra Kumar

Suva

Indeed it is wonderful to hear that Tuwai’s parents will be watching their son play at the 2018 Sevens World Cup.

What an amazing journey. Despite going through hardship in life Jerry is keeping his parents safe, secure, happy and independent. I admire Jerry’s courage and humility.

Our sevens captain is celebrating life together as a family. He is simply accepting all the changes his parents are experiencing as they age and embrace their aging.

This journey with his parents is full of empathy, care and lots of love.

Jerry is a wonderful young role model for all.

He loves his wife and children and at the same time hasn’t forgotten his parents.

If your parents cared for you care for them, if they didn’t care for you, and  if you have the opportunity to do so, care for them.

Be sure to spend time with your parents while you can because one day when you look up from your busy life, they won’t be there anymore.

Wonderful testimony Jerry, Vinaka va levu, God bless your family.

Modern Singapore

Dhirendra Prasad

Lautoka

It is really interesting to read (FS 17/07/18) that the person behind modern Singapore is in our country.

He is making plans to modernise our two cities.

This is the type of thinking we need in our leaders of today.

The plans we make now will last for decades.

This means we need to modernise our infrastructural development to ease our lives and serve better.

Bringing good planning to our country is a real way forward.

Keep up this momentum and I hope our leaders will continue to make Fiji relevant to the world and most importantly to our citizens in this globalised village of the modern world.

Gone are the days when developments were carried out haphazardly, which has led to serious challenges in this generation.

God bless our administrators of development and may we continue to flourish with more developments in a modernised manner, but sustainable within our contexts.

We also need to look at all the natural resources and recreational areas in our beautiful Fiji.

It needs better planning and development to attract more tourists as well as local people to enjoy our own beautiful and natural gifts.

We have more of such resources here, which many of our own travel to see abroad.

Developing such places would create more employment and revenue as well.

Best wishes to our planners of modern Fiji.

SODELPA stirring

Amenatave Yaconisau, Delainavesi

If democracy is majority rule of the united how come SODELPA rules with such stirrings and possibly monarchial despotism.

Maybe to legitimize traditional leadership again. Imagine what type of society we'll have with such camps that promotes traditional patriotism and absence of equality.

It's surprising we have supporters of such dangerous arrangements. Nemani Delaibatikis's analysis (FS 18/7)  is relevant, especially the allegation that power rests with two people who might have the capacity to influence others.

Opposition record

Tukai Lagonilakeba

Namaka, Nadi

Herewith is my chronology that we the majority Fijian registered voters will remember about the two Opposition parties.

This is from their last four years performance in our august house which closed its doors pending the result of our 2018 election.

Both the 17 SODELPA and NFP MPs swore on oath to God that their roles in Parliament will be through our 2013 Constitution, which they still openly reject until today.

They have vowed to change and revert to the rejected 1997 Constitution should they form government.

What a bunch of hypocrites, but why I say this is because they have all equally benefited from our FijiFirst Government.

This was through compliance from its incentives and initiatives through its proactive progressive driven user friendly policies including all their families, children, grandchildren  including all those who support their opposition ideologies.

What we can remember are their many childish Parliament boycotts and walkouts when it suited their ill-conceived agendas.

They become unproductive where they will totally gain nothing from doing so, but are still being paid their Parliament allowances and salaries despite being absent for days.

But, our government still gets its job done, nevertheless through their numbers which always frustrates them.

One of their most disrespectful conduct was in their unwarranted boycott of Parliament during the invitation of Narendra Modi the Prime Minister of India which is a World Superpower with an elephant of an economy to address our Parliament.

I believe that in any tradition and custom the visitor is treated and accorded the highest of respect with love by the hosts.

But, Mr Modi rose above the occasion and said that they were only exercising their democratic right because it could happen anywhere in the world. Maturity from a world authority.

We can still remember the many issues brought to Parliament by either side of the opposition bench.

One party does not agree and did not synchronize on the Bill as is Democracy.

It shows when it comes to the Parliament vote, when a SODELPA MP utters discriminating remarks in Parliament the NFP allows it to happen where it does not condemn the act.

Parliamentary privilege aside Fijians were made to witness the many iTaukei vulgar vernacular words uttered in parliament our many Fijian children were also subjected to. They set very bad standards and examples, and were also rowdy, loud and disrespectful in nature.

We know for a fact the suspensions of the many opposition MPs from the august house resulting from their unwarranted unruly conduct and irresponsible  behaviour to try and fool the Fijian public with their disrespectful constant use of the great Lord Jehovah’s name in vain.

We remember their defeated motion of No Confidence brought to parliament against Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama.

PM Bainimarama commanded the respect of world Leaders in the International arena where he was appointed to the chairmanship for COP23 one of the most respected forums which none in the opposition will ever achieve in their political lifespan.

The 17 members from the opposition never supported our 2014-2015, 2015-2016, 2017-2018 National Budget.

But, in our 2018-2019 Budget the opposition were caught by surprise when MP Karavaki unilaterally took on the leader of opposition role and announced in Parliament that the two opposition parties will support the Budget, what a gimmick that was.

Ro Teimumu is on record for uttering these words from SODELPAs shock defeat after our September 2014 elections and I quote; “Oh No, they have chosen a Military Government, the Bainimarama Government” unquote.

Until today she still will never accept the majority verdict, the Fijian people’s will and mandate with their majority chiefs, they have chosen a democratic PM and government. Be ready this time again including Sitiveni Rabuka, who is dreadfully barking out wildly in the wilderness.
