Maybe the DPP can appeal and prove that “hate speech” was indeed present in accordance with section 17(2)(c) of the Constitution.
Freedom of speech should be protected from “hate speech”.

Could somebody translate the letter written by Josaia Waqabaca in The Nai Lalakai newspaper, which was the subject of the recent sedition case where all the accused were discharged without any conviction?

National leadership
Tukai Lagonilakeba , Nadi
The majority of Fijians have become accustomed to the modern leadership version that has dominated our national political scenario through the FijiFirst government of Voreqe Bainimarama.
He is compassionate, considerate, sympathetic, kind, approachable, accessible 24/7 and most importantly he maintains a very well balanced lifestyle in family and work.
He is also a fitness fanatic when he finds the time.
There is still a leadership struggle in the SODELPA ranks including their many party internal differences. Now Sitiveni Rabuka is being charged with giving false information to the Fijian Elections Office, the NFP and FLP is way down the bottom, but none of these political parties have the desired leadership we Fijians fancy.
On the international arena, our Prime Minister’s achievements is a great success story where he is respected by world leaders. No other PM in the country’s history can ever surpass what Mr Bainimarama has done. In doing so he has set a standard that will be very difficult to achieve for a very long time.
It is also great to see our Acting PM, Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum, dish out lessons of the truth to the Opposition bench to correct the lies they are so accustomed to. They get straightened then and there.
Life commitment
Floyd Robinson , Nasinu
With so much discussions on the royal wedding, it looks like fans may be overlooking more important aspects.
Marriage is a legal and spiritual commitment that is a life long journey, which is beyond sickness, in good time and difficult times. It’s a longer journey beyond the glamorous wedding ceremonies and receptions.
When all have left the couple begin a lifelong commitment. With marriage break downs being common even in our part of the country.
Like one farmer Sinclair, from Paipai, said the other day, that he would rather have bubblegum and juicy at his wedding because there is no need to please other people because they won’t be there for him and his wife during the stormy days in their life-long relationship.
All in all, marriage is special and couples have every reason and many ways to enjoy the life-long commitment.
Centennial celebrations
Naveen Dutt , Wainibokasi
The Arya Pratinidhi Sabha of Fiji will celebrate its 100 years of colourful history and existence at Gurukul Primary School, Lautoka, this weekend.
The journey of 100 years has not been an easy one, but the efforts and sacrifices by the pioneers, the executives of the past and present and all well-wishers is noteworthy.
The theme for this year’s centennial celebration is ‘Celebrating one hundred years of nation building through education in Fiji.’
Indeed, the occasion calls for a massive celebration and the Sabha is proud to have sustained its operations for the last 100 years and expresses its deep gratitude to the Fijian Government, donors, well-wishers and the pioneers for their contributions, generosity and sheer determination.
It is worth noting that Gurukul Primary School was the first formal school established in 1918, by the Sabha.
Gurukul Primary School continues to play a significant role in the education of children of all ethnicity and has seen around 40,000 students passing through its gates in the last 100 years.
One of the prime objectives for the establishment of the Sabha is to facilitate the education of girls, women and the socio- economically deprived.
I can proudly say that the Sabha has carried out its roles and responsibilities with honesty, dignity, determination, equality, care, respect, understanding and peace.
It has laid a strong platform inclusive of all ethnicities and backgrounds.
So many students from Sabha schools are now serving in various sectors such as the medical field, universities, law firms, Government departments, NGOs, business firms and the list goes on.
Let us not forget the founder of the Arya Samaj Organisation- Maharishi Swami Dayanand Saraswati. Swami Dayanand was a great preacher, social reformer and philosopher who worked tirelessly in removing elements of witchcraft, sorcery and superstition. The challenges ahead are colossal and the youths must also be actively involved in the decision making process as well as other operations of the parent body.
I wish everyone success and best of luck.
