Amenatave Yaconisau, Delainavesi
It seems that SODELPA's strategies employed to capture power is on the wrong track again (Fiji Sun 7/6).

Normally, it is supposed to widen its support base, but with the current stirrings in the two opposing camps it restricts that objective.
It seems they are competing for votes internally and that is bad for voters.
Democracy should be an opportunity for upright men to rule us and also a chance to outvote them.
Pleasing God
Dharmendra Kumar, Suva
There are many times when we allow the concerns and opinions of others to become more important to us than what God thinks.
While we should not be rude or careless regarding what others think or feel, ultimately the only judgment of our lives that really matters is the one that God will render.
We must remember that we are not going to answer to God for others, but for our own actions, thoughts, and motives.
“So then every one of us shall give account of himself to God” (Romans 14:12).
Even if no one else is doing what is right, we can still follow God’s path if we care about His opinion most.
Our ultimate goal should be to please God.

Dividends and shares
Tukai Lagonilakeba, Namaka, Nadi
Dividends and non-voting shares from our past governments were unheard of including initiatives and incentives, but are all these new terminologies or vocabularies that have just popped up and have seen the light of day through this FijiFirst Government leadership after its 2014 elections victory?
They have revolutionised it.
One such initiative is similar and much better than the Air Terminal Services (ATS) concept of worker participation where they become responsible shareholders through a Workers Trust with its Trustees who run the show collaborating with the CEO, management and the ATS board.
But the 250 non-voting shares accorded to any Fijian home owner who is registered with an electricity account through Energy Fiji Limited is entitled irrespective of what province you come from or where you dwell.
This is an amazing feat or gift, which is an opportunity for ordinary Fijians to own shares in their lifetime.
This is empowerment and it can be termed customer shareholder participation.
The Fiji Pine Limited, our national airline Fiji Airways, Ports Terminal Limited, Fiji Sugar Corporation, Telecom Fiji and FINTEL plus the many more privatised government companies are all in good shape and financial status where the workers are paid their dividends annually in the millions of dollars as opposed to the many previous government appointed boards where there is always a loss at the end of their financial years through dirty politics, mismanagement and bad governance.
What a humongous positive difference this has made to the lives of those Fijian workers and their families.
But these can only happen if we have a smart, mature, determined and brave leadership but most importantly is the vision of making it right by setting the standards for our other future Fijian leaders to emulate and consistently take them to much higher levels.
This are traits of a clean, selfless and inclusive leadership, they never lose sight of their oath from their unwavering desire to serve the Fijian people and deliver to improve their lifestyle according to their many election promises.
That is a commitment to good governance at national level to maintaining a vibrant and sustainable economy.
Despite all the ill-conceived comments from opposition an economist in a university and other local and internationally-renowned economist have all positively labelled our economy as encouraging and forward looking, which is something that the boisterous Rabuka cannot see.
What is of utmost important is we the majority Fijians, are overwhelmed and have accepted the FijiFirst Government’s National Budget even without the time-wasting exercise of the one-week Budget debate in our Parliament.
