The National Disaster Risk Management Office (NDRMO) is advising people to stay away from flooded creeks and drains and remain vigilant as severe thunderstorm warnings and heavy rain continue to affect most parts of Viti Levu and the southern part of Vanua Levu.

According to the Fiji Meteorological Service, a moist northeast to southeast wind flow is prevailing over the group, with afternoon thunderstorms expected to intensify into severe thunderstorms accompanied by heavy rainfall.

“Due to the unpredictable nature of thunderstorms, some locations within the warning area may experience little to no impact, while others could face severe conditions,” the Fiji Met said in a statement.

The NDRMO has urged the public to avoid walking, riding bicycles, or driving through floodwaters under any circumstances, warning that even shallow waters can sweep vehicles and individuals away.

Reports of hail, small ice balls, were received from parts of Nadarivatu today and over the weekend during heavy rain and strong winds.

Households are encouraged to remain vigilant, monitor official weather updates, and take early action to protect families and property. Residents are also advised to unplug electrical appliances to prevent hazards during lightning and heavy rainfall.
