Monetary Incentives To Boost Athletics

Athletics Fiji will be host­ing the first Grand Prix round one and trial 2 for the 2019 Pacific Games at the ANZ Stadium, Suva, on Friday and Sat­urday.

Athletics Fiji president Joe Rodan Snr told SUNsports yester­day that the Grand Prix would cre­ate a good opportunity for athletes to know their worth and prepare themselves for the Pacific Games.

“We’re hosting the first session of the grand prix this weekend and have urged athletes to participate as it is also the second trial for the Pacific Games,” Rodan Snr said

“And the exciting part of these grand prix sessions is that we’ve two more sessions in line where we’ll be financially awarding top three athletes in all the events con­tested for.

“This is also a great way to en­courage more athletes to partici­pate and be aware of their per­sonal performance in terms of making the A-qualifiers list for the Pacific Games.

“We’re grateful to Athletics Fiji for coming up with this initiative and funding this session which I know will be a good platform for these athletes to prove them­selves.”
