It is an overwhelming yet challenging experience for Fiji Airways Fijiana 7s forward Rusila Nagasau to lead the side to the Kitakyushu 7s in Japan on April 20-21.
Nagasau captained the Fijiana 7s side during the Sydney 7s in Australia and she is determined that the side will lift their performance and ranking in the upcoming tournament.
“Since we got back from the Sydney 7s last two months ago we continued with our normal training sessions and preparations have been going on well for us,” she said.
“At the moment we’re working with our coaches in trying to get our fitness level up to par as we have two weeks left for the tournament.”
She said taking over the captaincy role from Ana Maria Roqica, who is her cousin, has been tough.
“It was a great challenge for me to be taking over the captaincy role from Ana Maria Roqica who is the most experienced halfback in the team.
“She has been an instrumental player for the side over the years. Also, making a switch from 15s to sevens rugby was a challenge for me personally as I had to adapt to the fast pace style of game.
“We hope to deliver our best and improve our ranking in the upcoming the Kitakyushu 7s in Japan.”
