RubyAnn Sorovaki’s plan is to strengthen grassroot development for netball in Fiji.

She made the comments following her re-election as Netball Fiji (NF) president after their Annual General Meeting at the HFC Bank Stadium’s corporate box, Suva last Saturday.

Sorovaki has already served a term in office; she contested against Suva Netball Association’s nominee Vasiti Vugakoto.

She said this would be a great year for netball as they build-on discussion with NF council regarding their roadmap, which is guided by their strategic plan.

“All those things are very macro, which what we have to do. Underlying all of that, we just need to go back to community,” she said.

“I’ve spoken to all presidents following the meeting for us to commit to working together to ensuring grassroots development happens. In order for that to take place we need information and data from them.

“It is going to be an exciting year ahead of us, and the presidents all now know what’s needed of them,” Sorovaki added.

She indicated that only three netball associations were eligible to vote according to the NF constitution, along with the council members.

“I think the other interesting aspect of our meeting was the support of the council to move in a direction of a board to guide Netball Fiji and our strategic move forward, I think that will be a priority for us moving forward,” Sorovaki said.

“Major associations came and we had a good group of observers, we had minor associations came all the way from Tailevu North to observe, we had primary schools which was good for us.

“Unfortunately, we missed Suva as a big association but we were able to move forward as a discussions related to netball as a whole.

“Nadroga, Lautoka and Secondary Schools voted according to our compliance check in terms of levies paid to be able to vote at the AGM.”

Sorovaki added that votes for her and Vugakoto could not be disclosed as advised by their lawyers.
