Eight Taekwondo athletes will be selected to represent Fiji at the Honiara Pacific Games in Solomon Islands on November 19 to December 2.

This was confirmed to SUNsports today by Taekwondo Fiji president Nimesh Narayan during their first trials at the Vodafone Arena in Suva.

He said they are looking at selecting six male and two female athletes, however it could change.

“There has been an increasing interest from athletes this year,” Narayan said.

“About 30 athletes turned-up for the trials.

“Only red belts and above are here for the trials but black belts are intended for international events.”

Taekwondo Fiji won nine medals at the 2019 Pacific Games in Apia, Samoa which were silver and bronze medals.

Narayan indicated they hope to secure gold medals at this year’s Games.

He said that they would have Australia-based Richard Lin for the Pacific Games.
