Kabara is the newly crowned Cricket Fiji’s Easter tournament champions. This was after Kabara defeated Suva Warriors by six wickets in the final at Albert Park, Suva, yesterday.

Speaking to SUNsports after the final, Kabara cricket team coach Watisoni Uluiviti said they were excited at the players’ performance as they beat the defending champions.

“I thank God Almighty for giving strength and power to my players,” he said.

“They were very courageous and determined to win the final.”

Uluiviti said the team was mentally, physically and spiritually prepared as they were facing Suva Warriors in the final.

“We were not new to the Suva team as we played them in the final last year. Despite losing the final last year we made specific changes to our game plan for this year’s competition. We knew Suva will come out strong and we knew areas that they would use against us. My players had prepared well and they were ready for them.”

Uluiviti said they had a month of preparation at Kabara and another month in Suva before participating in the tournament.

“I thank our supporters who came from overseas and also those in Viti Levu for coming out in numbers.

“Also, to Honourable Filimoni Vosarogo, for sponsoring our team’s jerseys and this win is dedicated to them all,” he said.

The Kabara team has now turned their focus to the Super 8 challenge in August.
