At just fifteen, Emily Sir is making her debut at the International Cricket Council World Cup Qualifier Tournament at Albert Park today.

Emily, who is originally from the United Kingdom, is representing Indonesia for the tournament.

She began her first cricket journey through England’s All Stars Cricket program and has since worked her way up.

“I was doing something in England called All-stars, which is just like little cricket, and the cricket club made me work my way up” she said

Currently, Emily is at batter position three for the team and has played against Vanuatu and Fiji, with Indonesia earning a victory over Fiji earlier today.

“We played against Vanuatu yesterday and we lost by 10 runs and today we won against Fiji, she said

Emily admitted that the tournament has been a challenge for her, as it is her first major tournament.

“Of course, the pressure is always there, but I’m grateful for the crowd cheering for me”, she said.

One of her early challenges was the language barrier that she had with her teammates. As most of them spoke Bahasa Indonesia while she spoke English.

“They are working on their English, and I am working on my Bahasa and it’s going very well” she said

Emily’s advice to young athletes or anyone that is interested in cricket is simple

“You are never too young to do something and always learn to enjoy and play for fun” ,she said.

Emily hopes to work hard and one day join cricket’s big name turning her passion into a professional career.
