A strategic move by Ba Football Association president Praneel Dayal in the appointment of Ravinesh Kumar as head coach could prove crucial in their Extra Premier league (EPL) campaign this season.

Kumar previously served as Ba FA’s director of football.

The Men-in-Black team is ranked second in the EPL points standings with 17 points. Labasa leads the table with 18 points while Rewa is in third place with 16 points.

Dayal said the decision was made through careful consideration and a thorough assessment of the team’s current situation.

“As your president, it’s my responsibility to ensure Ba Football keeps moving forward,” he said.

“We have incredibly high standards to live up to, and sometimes that means making difficult decisions to keep everyone accountable to the jersey.”

Kumar has earned praise from Dayal for his wealth of experience and leadership qualities.

“We believe his leadership is exactly what the team needs at this moment to bring out the best in our players,” Dayal said.

Dayal acknowledged outgoing head coach Shalen Lal for his contribution to the team.

“This shift is not a reflection of Shalen’s capability,” he said.

“Football is a demanding game, and we simply felt a reshuffle was needed to bring a fresh perspective to the squad.”

Dayal added that Lal will remain with the team as assistant coach.

“His (Lal) connection with the boys and his understanding of Ba football culture are incredibly valuable, and we are grateful he is staying on to help guide the team,” he said.

Dayal has called on the Ba fans to continue their support towards the two expert coaches.

“Decisions like this are never easy, but I want to be completely transparent with you all. You are the heartbeat of Ba Football, and we can’t do this without your trust and support.”

Ba hosts Nasinu at Govind Park in Ba tomorrow. The match kicks-off at 3pm.
