Desprez emerges as key voice in Bula FC’s growth

Extra Bula FC goalkeeper Didier Desprez said he is embracing a leadership role within the squad as the club continues to build momentum in the OFC Pro League.

The 26‑year‑old Frenchman arrived just weeks before the season began, and although the transition from Europe to Fiji was quick, he says the environment around the club helped him settle immediately.

“I was able to integrate into the team very quickly,” Desprez told Bula FC Media.

“Everything happened fast, but I found my place within the group. I’m pleasantly surprised by what I’ve seen both in how the OFC is organized and how Bula FC operates.

“Everyone wants this first edition of the league to succeed, and it shows. The level is intense, and every team has a chance. It’s very balanced on the field.”

While the footballing adjustment has been smooth, the Pacific climate has been his biggest challenge.

“The sun that was the hardest part at first,” he said.

Desprez added: “Training in 30‑degree heat when it was -4 degrees back home was a shock. But in terms of football, there’s not a huge difference.

“Yes, the game is more developed in Europe, but here the club and staff put real importance on professionalism whether in the gym or on the pitch. In just one month, I’ve seen major improvements in our play and tactics. I hope that continues.”

Desprez believes the opening rounds of the OFC Pro League have been crucial for shaping Bula FC’s identity and ambition.

“The first two rounds were important to understand where we stood,” he said.

“I think we have the ability to finish high in the standings, but we have to keep working.”

With growing confidence and increased familiarity among players, the goalkeeper says consistency will be key.

“We have to take every match seriously. Anyone can beat anyone in this competition. But I feel we’re capable of winning more matches and we just need to stay focused,” he said.

As Bula FC continues its first OFC Pro League campaign, Desprez is quickly becoming more than just the man between the posts he is emerging as a steadying voice guiding the club through its early steps in a rapidly professional environment.
