Tailevu/Naitasiri under 16 girls head coach Elvis Gounder is focusing on the development of his players in the Fiji Football Association (Fiji FA) U16 Youth League tournament.
The team won by default against Northland Tailevu after their opponents failed to show up at Fiji FA grounds, Vatuwaqa, Suva on Saturday.
“It’s good to see the girls are coming back in the new season,” Gounder said.
“We managed to bring a team and we are proud that the girls are committed despite a clash with their athletics training.”
Gounder is looking to recruit more girls in his team for player development.
“They have a lot of potential to join the national team and we have developed a lot of players,” he said.
“We even have some players in the national team.”
Gounder added that his team will work hard for a top place finish.
“We see that some players can’t join training due to the distance and family commitments,” he said.
“We want to involve young girls now so we can develop and set them up for U17 and U19 with the potential for national selection.”
Gounder was grateful to the parents of the players for releasing them to represent their district at youth level.
