The Baby Babasiga Lions claimed the Extra Under-16 Youth League by defeating Rewa and Rakiraki 1-0 respectively at the Fiji Football Association Academy ground in Vatuwaqa, Suva, last weekend.
The Labasa U16 side lifted the title by finishing at the top of the points table with a maximum of six points.
Labasa U16 coach Riaz Khan told SUNsports yesterday that he was proud of his players at how they executed their game plan.
“The boys really did a marvelous job,” he said.
“They played really well and it was a great performance from the boys. Their hardwork was evident on the field and they were good in all aspects.”
Khan said they had a month of preparation.
He also acknowledged the senior coaches, staff and parents of the Labasa U16 team for their support.
“All the credit goes to the boys, teachers, principals, Labasa Football Association, the president, the senior coaches and our team managers for the wonderful support towards the boys,” he said.
Khan said without their support they would not be able to win.
He added that their team consisted of players from various schools in Labasa.
“It’s actually history for Labasa to get their first U16 Youth Championship title this year,” he added.
