The Nasinu Football Association (Nasinu FA) is calling their supporters to back them up for next month’s BiC Fiji FACT tournament in Labasa.
Dubbed, the country’s Giant Killers, Nasinu is aiming to create history by winning their first Fiji FACT tournament right on Nasinu FA’s 50th anniversary.
Nasinu FA president Jagindar Singh said they have again qualified for the major tournament despite operating with limited financial resources against some of the country’s bigger football districts.
Nasinu is currently in sixth spot of the Extra Premier League standings with 14 points from 10 matches, where they have recorded four wins, two draws, and four losses, this season.
Singh said qualifying for the tournament was already a proud achievement.
“Our players have worked extremely hard throughout the season despite the challenges we continue to face as a smaller association,” he said.
Nasinu’s closest chance of winning the Fiji FACT came in 2002 when they lost 3-2 to Lautoka on penalty shootouts in the final at Churchill Park.
Nasinu FA for the past decades have produced top players like Tagi Vonolagi, Suka Tuba, Eliki Lui, Tupe Kosa, Ronald Chaudhry, Safiq Ali and the list goes on and on.
After more than two decades, Singh believes the dream of lifting the trophy remains alive.
“The motivation is there for the players to give everything for the district.
“It would be very special if we could achieve something memorable during our 50th anniversary year.”
Singh admitted the Nasinu FA still faces financial challenges and has appealed to businesses, supporters, and former players to assist the team’s preparations for Labasa.
“We may not have the biggest budget, but we have heart, unity, and belief,” he said.
The official pool draws will be held next Saturday ahead of the tournament, which kicks-off from June 19-21 at Subrail Park in Labasa.
