Extra Bula FC’s lack of execution in their finishing resulted in their, 1-0, loss to Tahiti United FC in their second round match of the OFC Pro League at Santos National Stadium, Papua New Guinea yesterday.

Tahiti United captain Teaonui Tehau scored a penalty goal in the 68th minute after a foul by defender Semi Nabenu.

Bula FC head coach Stephan Auvray said his team had numerous chances to score but failed to execute their finishing.

“I’m more frustrated at not scoring the goals than anything else because otherwise we are pretty solid and we are created chances,” Auvray said.

“Since game two, we should have converted the chances into points, we should have much more points.”

Auvray said it will be a priority for his team to improve on their finishing in attack.

“I would prefer a different problem because this one I can’t really fix, scoring goals,” he said.

“We could give the players a structure, we could help them to defend and attack better but once they get in the box facing the goalkeeper, there is nothing we can do.”

Auvray said the team will continue to increase their efforts to polish their finishing.

“We started slow but we have so much character,” he said.

“We’re solid as we created clear chances, so everything was good. Like many of our games is just we have to score one, two goals to kill the game which we did not and then this is what happens.”

Auvray said the team will work hard to produce goals.

“I’m proud of the players of their work ethic, the discipline and the ability to create chances,” he said.

Experienced Fijian defender Tevita Waranaivalu of Tahiti United team was awarded the man of the match for his performance in helping his team get their first win of the season.

“I’m happy and I’d like to praise the Almighty for giving us the strength to overcome a powerful Fijian side,” he said.

“The performance was marvelous and credit to the boys.”
