Bula FC captain Roy Krishna believes they can deliver a better result against New Zealand’s Island United in tomorrow’s OFC Pro-League clash at North Harbour Stadium.

This was after the Extra Bula FC only had themselves to blame in their 2-2 draw against Vanuatu United in round one at Eden Park, Auckland, New Zealand, last Saturday.

The Fijians threw away a 2-1 lead with only a minute to spare at full-time, when goalkeeper Didier Desprez failed to stop a shot.

Roy said that after South Island United suffered a 3-0 loss to Auckland FC in their derby match, they would come out firing against them.

We knew this was going to be hard. That’s how you start.

“We should be playing much better. Sometimes we rushed the ball as we tried to make the final pass. It’s in those moments; we could control the game.

“I am proud of the boys. We are on the right track after the first game of the season. This is something new for the people to watch, even for the players, to have a taste of the professional environment.

"We knew this was going to be hard. That’s how you start.”

Roy added that the side needs to start well from the first set piece against the Kiwis.

“We know they are dangerous. We should not lack concentration or make small mistakes. If you’re going to make them, in this league, you’ll get punished. “The team is made up of young boys.

Everyone stood up and we defended very well. We still have a long way to go.”

Roy said 17-year-old Maikah Dau played well. “He played alongside me. He did a great job, and he was nervous before the game,” he recalled.

“He (Dau) played really well. he controlled the game; he knew my runs and was always competing for the second ball.

So, for him, I’m glad he’s aged 17. “He has a huge future ahead and he just keeps working hard. I’m pretty sure he can go all the way.”

The match against South Island United kicks-off at 2pm.
