National football captain Roy Krishna made a bold decision to turn down lucrative offers from clubs abroad to join Bula FC.
Krishna who is one of Fiji’s brightest stars of international football opted to join the country’s first-ever professional football team for January’s inaugural OFC pro league competition.
The Babasiga man said his decision was not just a career choice, it was a heartfelt return to the community, a desire to guide the next generation of footballers and a commitment to his roots.
For years, Krishna dazzled on the football fields in India and abroad, making his name at champion teams like Mohun Bagan in the Indian Super League (ISL).
He added it is a story of roots, legacy and passion.
It’s a dream come true for the country and I am determined to be at the forefront of this exciting new era.

“I’ve had an amazing journey playing abroad especially the last six years in India and 10 years before that in New Zealand but there’s something truly special about coming back home,” Krishna said.
“It’s where my roots are and I’m excited to give back to the place that gave me so much.”
While offers were lucrative from established clubs outside of Fiji, he said he wanted to be part of Fiji football history.
He said that Bula FC is not just a team, it’s the start of something monumental, marking the entry of Fiji into Oceania’s first-ever professional football league.
“It’s a dream come true for the country and I am determined to be at the forefront of this exciting new era,” said Krishna.
MORE THAN JUST A PLAYER
Krishna’s decision to return wasn’t solely about playing; it was about contributing to a vision much larger than himself.
Bula FC is packed with young, talented players, many of whom are looking to make their mark in the professional game.
For him, this is an opportunity to pass on the lessons he’s learned from a career that has taken him across continents.
“I’m here not just to play, but to guide young players and show them what it takes to succeed at the highest level.
“Football is not just about the game, it’s about the people, the culture, and the connection you have with your roots.”
His vision for Bula FC goes beyond just on-field tactics.
He wants to instill in the players the discipline, resilience, and mentality that he himself learned while playing in top-tier leagues.
“I want them to achieve even more than I did,” he said.
NEW CHAPTER, NEW CHALLENGE
It’s been an incredible career for Krishna, from his time in the ISL to his international appearances for Fiji, but now it’s time for a new chapter.
Coming back home was an easy decision for him.
He said the chance to play in Fiji’s professional league and to be part of the very first team adds another level of fulfilment to an already accomplished career.
Krishna said this was an opportunity to leave a legacy for Fijian football, a legacy that will extend well beyond his playing days.
“I know what it takes to succeed at the top level, and I want to bring that mentality to Bula FC. It’s about hard work, discipline, and focusing on the team’s goals above everything else.”
FAMILY AND GRATITUDE
Wife Naziah and daughter have supported him through every phase of his career.
“My wife and daughter have been so patients and supportive throughout my career. To finally be able to share my days with them here is truly the icing on the cake. I’m so grateful for this chance,” he said.
Krishna returned to Fiji earlier this week to celebrate Christmas with his family.
He officially joins Bula FC tomorrow when the team return from their break.
