Composure and discipline were the winning formula for the Ba women’s football team in their 7-0 win over Rewa for the Fiji Football Association (Fiji FA) Women’s Inter-District Champi-onship (IDC) 2025 at Fiji FA head-quarters in Vatuwaqa, Suva, yesterday.

Ba head coach Charlene Lockington said her young players stuck to the game plan to ensure their victory.

“They just outshine the opposition with their speed and they’re very young with a lot of energy,” she said.

“I told the players to win all our matches and to treat every game as the final.”

Lockington said there was vast experience in her young team as most of her players have national exposure.

“We kept our position in attack with short touches which worked in our favour,” she said.

“Get rid of the ball and move forward was my message to the players and they achieved that.”

Lockington acknowledged the Rewa players for their effort.

“I respect them as a team and there’s a lot of national players in their team as well,” she said.

Rewa captain Naomi Waqanidrola said her players gave their best efforts on the field despite the loss.

“It’s always hard to start of the year when you have a long break as such and I’d like to thank the girls for coming out against a strong team like Ba,” she said.

“I could see they gave their best efforts despite coming up against the national reps in the Ba team.”

Waqanidrola said they have to im-prove on linking up their play during the attack- from the backs to the forwards.

“We need to use the spaces available and create opportunities up-front. We’ll go back recover and prepare against Labasa.”

Ba opened the scores through forward Cema Nasau scoring the first goal in the 9th minute while Asela Cokanasiga scored Ba’s second goal in the 23rd minute.

The momentum continued for the women in Black as Aliza Hussein scored the third goal in the 26th minute and Sisilia Kumasi goal in the 31st minute proved Ba’s dominance as they led 4-0 at halftime.

Cokanasiga scored her second goal in the second half while Elesi Tabunase contributed to the scoring sheet as well. A blunder by Rewa skipper Waqanidrola saw her score an own goal bringing the final scores to 7-0.

Labasa on fire

Meanwhile, the Labasa women side put on a strong performance as they walloped Suva 7-0 yesterday. Labasa raced to a 4–0 lead at half-time, with Unaisi Tuberi opening the scoring in the 3rd minute, followed by goals from Astha Shar-ma in the 5th minute and Shayal Sindhika in the 8th minute.

Sofi Diyalowai added the fourth in the 24th minute. The Northerners put on the momentum in the second half, with Diyalowai, Sharma, and Tuberi each scoring again to complete their braces and seal a comprehensive win.
