Golf Fiji raises $17,000 for Samoa Open trip

Golf Fiji raised $17,000 at the inaugural Cherry-sponsored Golf Fiji charity golf day at the Denarau Golf and Racquet Club on Saturday.

Outgoing president Amitesh Chandra said the funds would be used to help send a national team to the Fiji PGA sanctioned Samoan Open 2026 in August.

“The plan is to send four elite squad members, three women golfers and three junior golfers, along with a team manager,” Chandra said.

“The total cost for the trip is $30,000. 

“We have managed to raise $17,000 thanks to everyone present today. Golf Fiji will now look to raise the remaining $13,000.”

Chandra said GM Motors had also presented Golf Fiji with a $4000 cheque to kick-start the Ambrose event.

“They will continue to support this event in 2027,” he said.

He thanked major sponsor GM Motors and supporting sponsors Tokoriki, CML, Kris Signage, Radisson, BSP, Ride and Slide by South Sea, and Tanoa Hotels.

Coral coast-based Team Maui Bay won the ambrose with a net score of 55.375, led by Jeral Sharma, Shawn Kumar, Noah Down, and Wayne Down who carded several birdies.

Suva-based Team Steve Sharpes, Tomasi Tuivuna, Rajeev Patel, Patrick Kaittling and Agnes Fong who finished second on 57.125.

Also finishing third on 57.125 was Team PRTJ, comprising Parveer Chand, Rahul Kumar, Tracey Salthouse and John Craft.
