“We’re excited, we’re happy because we have created history. This is the first time we’re having an interhouse at the stadium,” he said.
Nand acknowledged the effort of students, teachers and parents.
“It is very difficult to defend what we achieved last year. With the effort from the boys, the teachers and the parents, we are able to prove ourselves by winning again,” he said.
He said the house prepared for two weeks leading up to the competition.
“In the afternoon, we took out the athletes for training. The teachers took their time to prepare them for this event.”
Rishikul Sanatan College athletics coach Jone Waqalevu said it was the first time the school had hosted its athletics competition at the stadium.
“So that alone has boosted the kids in taking part, compared to the last two years we’ve been having it at school. The weather suited our competition today and the kids enjoyed it.”
He said several students stood out and would likely be prepared for the upcoming zone competition.
Waqalevu said about 200 to 250 students participated.
Overall, Blue Sapphires House finished first with 27 gold, 21 silver and 19 bronze medals. Red House placed second with 18 gold, 13 silver and 12 bronze medals.
