Lautoka’s number one Nitesh Chand retained his title with a 2-1 victory over Riman Narayan in the grand final of the 5th Trustees Cup at the South Seas Club in Lautoka on Saturday night.

Chand, a former Suva football rep, defeated Imran Ali who was impressive from the pool matches to the semi-finals.

“It was another great outing and to defend the title was not so easy,” Chand said.

“There was a tough competition; I had to play my game well I delivered. I dedicated it to my family for their support.”

Chand who was the inaugural winner of the tournament when it started won $1000 prize money while Narayan pocketed $500.

“It was a great tournament, but Nitesh (Chand) had his A-game today,” said Narayan, who is Nadi’s number one.

Narayan defeated Raymond Reddy in the semi-final.

Club trustee chairman Jan Nissar said the competition was lifted to another level. He added continuous work is guaranteed to the clubhouse, including the snooker room.

“This tournament is growing strongly for the fifth edition and we love to give back to the game and to our players. Next year will be bigger and better.”

Club vice president Hafiz Rahiman said the snooker event at the club has been drawing a lot of interest from players and non-players.

“The tournament is a source of great pride for the trustees of the South Seas Club, who are kicking off this annual event to celebrate the sport and foster camaraderie within the community,” Rahiman said.
