Fiji’s young queens set to shine in Australia

The Celestial Singh-captained Fiji Under-15 girls’ flag football development team is set to make its debut in Australia.
The side departed the country yesterday and is expected to bring strong competition at the Asian Pacific (APAC) NFL Flag 2026 Under-15 Girls Championship at the Royal Pines Resort on the Gold Coast, which begins today.
Fiji will face host Australia, China, Japan, New Zealand, and South Korea in the Six-Nations tournament.

“After four months of gruelling training, these talented eleven young athletes are ready to make their mark at the NFL Flag APAC Championship tournament,” team manager Margaret Ingivald said.
Coaches Mikeali Sivo and Joseva Naivalu will lead the campaign.
“But it’s not just about the game. These girls have shown resilience, determination, and heart, training through rain, shine, and even minor injuries,” she said.
“From the Sigatoka Sand Dunes to neighbourhood hill sprints, pool sessions and fundraising efforts, they have given it their all. They have also received incredible support along the way.
“Parents have been rockstars, and the team secured sponsorships to make this dream a reality.”
Officials from the United States Embassy in Fiji also visited the team, hosting them for refreshments and sharing insights on scholarship opportunities during a session at the Lautoka Library.
The opportunity for the team to compete came through diaspora Fijians Lawrence Raman and Ratu Orisi Rabelo Navara, along with Tongan former National Football League (NFL) player Tevita Ofahengaue, who recognised the potential of the young athletes.
Meanwhile, NFL Flag is a co-ed sport played five-a-side. It is a non-contact, modified version of American football in which players wear flag belts instead of tackling.
Team: Celestial Singh (captain), Litiana Masala (vice-captain), Unaisi Sorovakatini, Loata Sevakasiga, Heavaline Tuvuki, Elenoa Sauleirogo, Grace Michel, Laite Sauvakarua, Susana Tavatuilagi, Evieli Natabuturu and Keleni Bau.
In the first round on Friday, Fiji will face South Korea before taking on host Australia.
