The Land Transport Authority (LTA) touch rugby captain Meribah Fapiano stressed the need for his team to improve their fitness ahead of the last round of the Jetour Fiji Suva Touch Business House Competition, this weekend.

LTA defeated Goodman Fielder 1–0 at Albert Park (ground 2) in Suva last Saturday.

“It’s our second year of competing in the tournament,” he said.

“We came in last year not knowing the rules and basics of the game. We only had one seasoned player last year, which was a challenge.”

Fapiano said they returned to the competition as underdogs this year.

“Training was intense, but there’s still room for improvement. We need to improve the number of female players as well, so we’re working with what we have.”

Fapiano said team unity and support are motivating to go for a win.

“It’s also about promoting wellness and health for the team, including networking with other companies. A win is a must and we hope to reach the finals this year.”

Fapiano encouraged the wider community in Fiji to engage in touch rugby.

“This sport is for all ages, and anybody can participate as long as they are motivated to improve their health and fitness,” he said.

“There is unity and loyalty with your company as well. Everybody wants to win, but health is the main motivation.”
