Aaliyah and Amaya Taylor were grateful for the opportunity to give back to the Fijian community through the sport of softball.

The Taylor sisters held the inaugural Bula Softball Camp at Albert Park last Saturday as part of the Try a New Sport Programme, in collaboration with the Fiji Islands Baseball and Softball Association (FIBSA).

“It feels good because I’m sharing something that I really like to do,” Aaliyah said.

“Softball is a fun sport, and it may be something new that they want to try.”

Aaliyah said softball has the potential to grow in the country.

Amaya said she was confident that Fijian girls would embrace softball.

“It’s very competitive, and it’ll be really fun for them,” she said.

“They can take part in competitions to grow the sport as well.”

Amaya added that Fiji has an immense pool of talented young people who could potentially become softball players.

“They just need to learn the basics, and they’ll be good to go,” she said.

“It’ll be really fun for them.”

Amaya enjoyed hosting the camp and seeing participants enjoy learning and playing the sport.

“Individuals can meet new people and have fun through this sport,” she said.

Amaya is confident there will be more Bula Softball Camps in the future.

“We met a lot of different people with different skills,” she said.

“Just remember, there is a lot of failure and fun in softball.”

Aaliyah added that people can learn from failure and develop their skills to become better softball players.
