Fiji is proudly represented at the 2025 World Taekwondo Championships in Wuxi, China, by two determined athletes, Lolohea Naitasi and Nipesh Prakash, under the guidance of veteran and head coach Neelu Nand.
The event runs from October 24 to 31 and brings together elite competitors from around the globe.
Nand, a pioneer of Taekwondo in Fiji with 34 years of service and dedication to the sport, leads the national team with a legacy of mentoring hundreds of athletes across the Pacific.

“The most rewarding part of being a coach is seeing my athletes grow in confidence and character. Taekwondo isn’t just about medals, it’s about building strength and spirit that lasts a lifetime,” said Nand.
Nand has represented Fiji at multiple South Pacific Games (now Pacific Games) and South Pacific Taekwondo Championships, winning medals and paving the way for future generations.
As the head instructor of Civic Taekwondo Academy, he has mentored hundreds of athletes across Fiji and the Pacific, instilling values of discipline, respect, and perseverance.
Athlete Lolohea Naitasi, from Nakelo, Tailevu, discovered her passion for Taekwondo in a school physical education class in 2022. Her journey is rooted in faith and family support.
“When challenges arise, I go back to God for peace and strength. My parents’ support motivates me to never give up and always strive for the best,” she shared.
Joining her is Nipesh Prakash, who was born in Labasa, raised in Qila, Taveuni, and is now based in New Zealand, where he balances high-performance training with postgraduate studies in accounting.
Currently pursuing a Master’s in Professional Accounting at the Victoria University of Wellington, he manages academic life, work, and high-performance training with focus and dedication.
“Every training session is a chance to grow stronger, mentally and physically. I’m proud to carry the Fijian flag and represent my country with honour,” Prakash said.
Coach Nand and athlete Naitasi departed Nadi on Tuesday, joining Prakash in Wuxi. The team began preparations immediately upon arrival, taking part in a joint training session with Team New Zealand and Team Cook Islands.
Fiji Taekwondo Association president Neelu Nand stressed the significance of Fiji’s participation: “This is more than just competition. It’s a message that Fiji Taekwondo is back, stronger and united. Our athletes embody the discipline, humility, and perseverance that define our sport and our people.”
The association thanked the families, clubs, and supporters, and calls on all Fijians to rally behind Team Fiji as they prepare for the official weigh-in and opening events.
