West Bowls hosts inaugural annual awards event

National and Sheraton reps Rajnesh Prasad and Sheral Edwards took out the men and women bowler of the year during the inaugural West bowl awards at the Nadi Sports and Social Club on Sunday.

Prasad’s silver medal at the Champions of Champions tournament at Club Barham in Melbourne, Australia in September was highlighted as a defining moment, demonstrating the potential of West bowlers to compete internationally despite limited resources and reinforcing the belief that it can be done.

Sanjeet Sen from Nadi won the Administrator of the Year Award for his outstanding service and leadership in strengthening bowls administration in the West.

The event celebrated excellence, leadership, and dedication across all levels of the sport, while reinforcing a strong commitment to grassroots and junior development as the foundation for long-term growth.

The Western division which comprised of five clubs were all represented; Nadi, Sheraton, Lautoka, Ba, and Rakiraki.

Bowls Fiji president and West Leadership Award recipient Bobby Prasad said West Bowls created history with the successful staging of its inaugural awards ceremony- marking a significant milestone in the development of the sport.

‘’The introduction of a prestigious annual awards platform would fuel commitment among players to perform at a higher competitive level, while motivating clubs to strengthen development pathways,’’ Prasad said.

He added that formal recognition builds discipline, confidence, and pride, particularly among younger bowlers.

Executive Ravitesh Singh said the success of the inaugural ceremony signals that the future of bowls in the West looks promising, with renewed motivation across clubs in Nadi, Sheraton, Lautoka, Ba, and Rakiraki.
