While most women hang their boots in their mid 30s, Josephine Maejiirs is still going strong at 49.

The Naroi, Moala, Lau native shares maternal links to Naila, Bau, Tailevu where she was brought up before moving to Australia.

Maejiirs is playing for Briars, a team of women from a few countries including Japan and Australia.

“What is age, you know? It’s all about why you believe in yourself, how you carry you through, train yourself and stay ready,” the former Bulikula captain said.

She is the oldest player at the three-day tournament.

Maejiirs is a mother of four and grandmother to two.

“It’s all about staying fit and loving what you do.

“Our goal is to reach the finals, play our hearts and have fun.”
