As the prestigious Deans Rugby competition enters its final stages, Marist Brothers High School Principal, Asish Dayal, says the tournament is more than just a battle on the field—it’s an extension of the school’s holistic mission.

Speaking during the launch of the schools career expo 2025, Mr Dayal sais they have set not only goals to compete but to excell as well. 'In everything we do, our goal is to provide our young men with opportunities to grow—not just academically, but emotionally, spiritually, and physically,” said Mr Dayal in an interview. “Dean’s Rugby is part of that journey.”

With two Marist teams still in the competition, the school is proud to see its players compete with discipline and heart. But for Mr Dayal, the biggest win is in character development.

“We see rugby as a classroom,” he said. “On the field, our boys learn how to be humble in victory and gracious in defeat. That’s just as important as scoring tries.”

Marist Brothers High School has kept its calendar packed with events throughout the year, showing its commitment to shaping well-rounded students. The rugby field is just one of many platforms used to teach values like resilience, teamwork, and humility.

As schools from across the country prepare for the final rounds, Mr. Dayal praised the Fiji Secondary Schools Rugby Union and the Ministry of Education for creating a national stage for young athletes.

“This year’s competition has been special—schools from all over Fiji are in the finals. It shows how much talent is out there,” he said. “From Marist, we’re not just cheering for our teams—we’re cheering for every student who has made it this far
