Naitasiri captain Asiveli Rokoua has issued a strong call for improved discipline following his side’s 39-16 bonus-point victory over Malolo in the opening round of the 2025 Skipper Cup on Saturday.

The Highlanders also retained the prestigious Inkk Farebrother trophy in the process.

Despite the commanding six-try victory at Ratu Cakobau Park in Nausori, Rokoua admitted his side has a lot to work on ahead of their Round two clash against Tailevu this week.

“We are happy for the win, but there are so many takeaways to work on,” Rokoua said after the match.

“Discipline is one of the biggest things, we had three yellow cards. That’s not good enough and we’ll have to tighten that up before facing Tailevu.”

Rokoua also acknowledged the challenge brought by a determined Malolo outfit, who came into the match as Vanua Cup champions.

“We were really stunned at the great game they came to play.

“We were anticipating a tough encounter, and they certainly tested us today,” he said.

“I thank the Malolo team for that tough battle.”

With support from their vocal home crowd, Naitasiri started strong with a try from Drua development prop Jone Naqiri. Fellow Drua squad members Motikiai Murray and hooker Kavaia Tagivetaua were also instrumental in the Highlanders’ dominant forward play.

Winger Viliame Kanatabua and flanker Veniasi Vosawale added further tries in the first half, with first five-eighth Etonia Rokotuisawa converting one. Malolo’s only points in the opening spell came from the boot of Tevita Ledua, who slotted two penalties to bring the score to 17–6 at halftime.

The second half saw Malolo struggle with discipline, receiving two yellow cards and a red card for lock Wajile Tuinagiagia following a dangerous tackle. Naitasiri capitalised with a penalty try, and further tries from Saula Qiolevu and Senijiale Qiokata sealed the win. Rokotuisawa added a penalty to his tally.

Looking ahead, Rokoua said Tailevu would be another step up.

“They’re a strong team and we know their preparations have been top-notch this year,” he said.

Naitasiri will travel to face Tailevu in on Saturday, while Malolo will look to bounce back at home against Ba.
