‘Our boys rose to the challenge’

The Ba Provincial Freebird Institute (Ba Pro) Under-18 rugby team has booked their place in the Vodafone Deans national quarterfinals after upsetting Queen Victoria School (QVS) at Lawaqa Park, Sigatoka, last Saturday.
Both teams were tied 29-29 at full-time but the match was awarded to Ba Pro for scoring the first try as per competition rules.
Ba Pro vice-principal Litiana Kaloucava admitted the team had not expected to overcome one of Fiji’s traditional secondary school rugby giants.

“This is because we knew QVS is one of Fiji’s top secondary school rugby teams,” she told SUNsports.
“We thank the boys for giving their best and our coaches for preparing them so well. We are thrilled with the result, and we acknowledge QVS for giving us a tough contest.
“QVS finished third in the Eastern Zone while we finished second in the Western Zone, but the national competition is different. We knew they would come prepared and give everything to qualify. I am proud that our boys rose to the challenge.”
Kaloucava described the victory as a historic milestone for the school.
