Trial date set for couple accused of poisoning daughter's boyfriend
Court confirms September 7 start as parties work to streamline 28-witness list

The murder trial of a Sigatoka couple accused of murdering their daughter’s boyfriend will begin on September 7.
Mohammed Naushad and his wife, Nazreen Nisha Khan, appeared before Judge Justice Riyaz Hamza at the High Court in Lautoka today.
They are jointly charged with the murder of 18-year-old student Jeet Singh.

The duo faces one count of murder, while Naushad faces an additional count of criminal intimidation.
The couple is alleged to have murdered and poisoned Mr Singh at Waiqali Settlement in Maro, Sigatoka, on June 30, 2022.
It is alleged that the couple forced Mr Singh to ingest a chemical at their house in Sigatoka.
Mr Singh was believed to have been involved with the couple’s daughter. He was found lifeless outside his girlfriend’s residence on the same day.
The two accused were represented by Iqbal Khan, while the State was represented by Sheenal Swastika.
The court confirmed the trial period from September 7 to October 2. The removal of one witness and addition of the investigating officer were also clarified.
There are 28 witnesses, and the State filed a fresh list of witnesses on August 4.
The court encouraged the parties to collaborate on finalising the witness list and reducing unnecessary witnesses to make the trial process more efficient and focused.
Bail was extended for the couple.
