The Suva Under-20 side have set their goal to win the title this year.

With many of their players playing in the Suva Rugby Union’s Escott Shield competition, captain John Tikoibau believes it is the best preparation before the Skipper Cup competition kicks off on August 1.

“Last year we came short in the semi-final; we lost to Naitasiri, a good team,” Tikoibau said.

“With the preparations we have been doing this year, we are fighting for that first spot and we are looking forward to a great season.”

He added there has been challenges within the team, however it does not deter them from training.

“Most of the boys have other commitments – some are working while others study. Despite these challenges, the boys are always ready to fight back,” the former Suva Grammar School student said.

Tikoibau started playing rugby since he was eight-years-old.

His personal goal is to improve his game and work towards donning the white jumper.

“I believe the dream of every Fijian is to wear the white jersey and I share that same dream,” Tikoibau said.

“It may take quite a long time, but I pray that it will come in God’s time.”

His favourite player is Hurricanes loose forward and Japan captain Warner Deans.

Asked why, Tikoibau said: “Because of his skills and how young he is.”
