Navosa scores comeback win

The Navosa women’s team fought hard in the second half to secure their spot in the Royal Tea Ranadi Cup final.

They trailed Cakaudrove 7-19 at halftime, before they made a comeback to win 33-31 at the National Stadium, Suva, yesterday.

Captain Merewalesi Kado said they were motivated to play for an injured team-mate Siteri Luvukaicia who did not finish the game.

“Navosa has been fighting for the top spot after a long time and we re happy that we did that,” the Wainadiro, Serua, locks said.

She shares maternal links to Yadrau, Navosa.

“We did not dream of achieving this because of the challenges we went through.

“Some team members travelled all the way from Navosa highlands while a few live in villages along the shores but we made it.

“We are hoping for to win the Ranadi Cup this year.”

Kado said some mornings they would go without breakfast; however, it did not deter them from training their best.

“Our motto was to do or die on the ground so when our teammate could not finish the game, it fired us up to give it our all in the second half.”

In the second semi-final, Yasawa thrashed Northern Bulls, 90-17.
