Newcomers Macuata has been in top form after they recorded two wins and a loss in the Easter Volleyball National Championship tournament at Suva’s Vodafone Arena yesterday.

Captain Dialanieta Logaivau said the team’s main focus is to participate in the country’s top volleyball tournament with the aim to be selected for the national team.

“Macuata is represented in this tournament with one men’s and women’s team competing in their respective category,” she said.

“We are so thankful to our players based in Labasa who are present at the tournament.”

Logaivau said her players have prepared well and are fully fit.

“We are thankful to be part of this tournament for the next three days.

“Our players from Labasa will be exposed in this kind of tournament.”

Logaivau added that the players and officials had to put in a lot of effort to raise funds to travel to the tournament.

“We are so thankful to our sponsors back home,” she said.

“We’re so grateful the we get to play indoor because back at home we play outside on the hardcourt.”

She said they have a few talented players who can be selected for the national team.

“The Macuata teams are different because the bond is so strong even with our coaches and management,” Logaivau said.

“Hard work and perseverance are the driving force behind this team.”

Logaivau said her team would not back down and they are willing to take up the challenge against the Suva teams.

“I’d like to thank our supporters back in Labasa and in the villages as we are here to represent Macuata as a whole.

“There are girls here who are from Cakaudrove and Bua but they are glad to be part of the Macuata team.”
