Top volleyball teams target Senibici title

A record 42 men’s teams have confirmed their participation in the Ratu Senibici Memorial Volleyball Tournament, which will be held on Friday and Saturday at the Laucala Bay Netball Centre in Suva.
Tournament director and former Fiji Volleyball Federation general secretary Jerry Cakau Saylor said the overwhelming response reflected the growing popularity and prestige of the annual competition.
“This year’s tournament has attracted an impressive 42 men’s teams, all of whom have paid and confirmed their participation,” Saylor said.
“The turnout reinforces the tournament’s reputation as one of the strongest volleyball competitions in the region.”
The tournament, which is exclusively for men’s teams, is expected to showcase some of Fiji’s top volleyball talent and deliver a highly competitive weekend of action.
Organisers are also closely monitoring weather conditions in Suva and have contingency plans in place to ensure the event proceeds smoothly it adjustments be required.
Saylor has called on volleyball fans to come out in numbers and support the tournament.
“Come out and witness the battle of the spikers, with top men’s clubs competing for a $4,000 prize pool,” he said.
“Spectators can expect explosive rallies, powerful spikes and elite athleticism as teams compete for one of Fiji’s most respected volleyball titles.”
The winning team will walk away with $4,000, while the runners-up will receive $1,000.
Losing semi-finalists will earn $600 each and losing quarter-finalists will take home $400.
