The Pinto Industries Pte Limited Duavata Northern Crime Prevention Carnival aims to raise $200,000 to help build a primary school classroom in Macuata while promoting awareness on crime and drug-related issues.
The nine-day carnival will be held from July 24 to August 1 at Subrail Park ground number two in Labasa.
Carnival committee chairperson Satish Kumar confirmed yesterday that preparations were underway, including the search for contestants in four categories — queen, king, princess and teens.

“Currently we are looking for contestants to contest in four categories which is queen, king, princess and teens,” Mr Kumar said.
“The contestants will be advocating on drug related cases, abuse, issues and concerns in Fiji.”
Mr Kumar said the committee continued to work closely with the Fiji Police Force as part of ongoing efforts to reduce crime in the Northern Division.
“Crime is happening every hour, every day and every week and this is why I always advocate for unity among people and the Fiji Police Force,” he said.
“We need to be their eyes and ears and inform them so that actions against perpetrators are taken.
“Everyone deserves to live safe in Fiji regardless of different age, colour, faith, gender and geographical location.”
Mr Kumar said proceeds from the carnival would go towards completing the construction of a primary school classroom in Macuata.
