“Fiji, I promise you my best” — vows newly crowned Miss Fiji

Fiji was promised dedication, service and heart as Peggy Ravusiro was crowned Miss Fiji on Saturday night, vowing to give her best as she prepares to represent the country on the Pacific stage next year.

Speaking moments after her crowning, Ravusiro said she was ready to rise to the expectations that come with the title and to serve with humility and strength.

“Fiji, I can only promise you my best. I hope for your support, your prayers, your veilomani. I promise you my best,” she said.

She acknowledged the pressure that comes with the crown, describing it as both challenging and transformative.

“There’s a lot of expectations. It can be suffocating, it can be strangulating, but I rise to the challenge. There is character building at the end of this,” Ravusiro said.

With the upcoming Pacific Island pageant set to be hosted at home, she called on the nation to show unity and love.

“We’ll be on our home turf. Let’s show our Pacific love, our Babasiga love, our veilomani,” she said.

In her final remarks of the night, Ravusiro — also known as Dr Peggy — shared a message for young people, particularly young women following her journey.

“Don’t take challenges with a victim mindset. Take them with a grateful heart. Say thank you even in the pain,” she said.
